You fill out the Census. Then what?

On 11 August, millions of Australians will hand over a surprisingly detailed snapshot of who we are, where we live and how we work.

But where does all that data actually go?

The short version: it gets protected, processed and turned into statistics that help inform decisions about transport, schools, healthcare, infrastructure and community services.

The much more interesting version involves data governance, privacy, security, integration, de-identification and eventually turning a lot of raw information into something genuinely useful.

If you’re curious about what happens behind the scenes, including how your information is protected, the ABS Privacy Statement has everything you need to know about Census privacy and data security.

And while your organisation probably isn’t sitting on Census-sized amounts of data, the same question is worth asking:

What are we actually doing with all the data WE collect?

Are you collecting the right information?

Can you trust it?

Is it governed properly?

Can the people who need it actually find and use the data?

And most importantly – is it helping you make better decisions and drive better outcomes?

Use the Census as an excuse to start the conversation

You don’t need a grand data strategy workshop to begin.

The Census gives you a timely excuse to grab a coffee with your team and ask:

  • What data do we have?
  • What do we wish we knew?
  • Could the data we already have help us answer it?
  • Do we trust it enough to act on the answer?
  • And are we managing it well enough to use it safely?

Those questions can lead somewhere much more interesting than another dashboard.

Because ultimately, the goal isn’t to become an organisation with more data.

It’s to become an organisation that is better at turning the data it already has into better decisions and better outcomes.

And if the Census has prompted a few data conversations in your organisation and you’re not quite sure where to take them next, talk to the Mojo Soup team.

We can help you understand what you’ve got, what you could do with it, and how to put the right foundations in place to actually make it useful.

When the process doesn’t exist yet: designing Dynamics 365 for change with Activity Templates.
Most systems are built around “defined processes.”The problem? Most organisations are still figuring those processes out as they grow. We had this exact situation with a client recently - and so we designed a solution for change rather than certainty. One of the trickier situations in a greenfield Dynamics 365 implementation is when a client…

No scope? No problem
So often we start a conversation with a client who knows they have a need, but they're not sure what the journey or end result looks like. In our world, making their unknowns, known is where we thrive. We understand, there’s a lot of comfort in a neatly defined scope and in a perfect world that’s where we’d start. However that assumes a level of clarity that…

Connected Brilliance: The Soupian difference between code and craft.
AI is everywhere right now. And it’s moving fast.  Code can be generated in seconds. Entire applications can be scaffolded before you’ve finished your first coffee. It’s tempting to believe we’ve finally found the shortcut (the tool that replaces complexity with speed), however speed alone has rarely delivered a great outcome.  At Mojo Soup, we think about AI a little differently. Less as a replacement…
